Madiha Imam Religion Seen as Secondary Due to Indian Husband

Pakistani actress Madiha Imam recently opened up about facing intense online trolling after her marriage, during an appearance on Faysal Quraishi‘s podcast. While she has not often been a target of social media criticism throughout her showbiz career, she revealed that her marriage became the focal point of harsh criticism.

Madiha Imam shared that people mocked her marriage and her husband, with some of the trolling centered on his appearance. Additionally, many made incorrect assumptions about her husband’s religion due to him being from India. She expressed frustration over how her husband was treated, saying that people assumed he belonged to a different religion simply because he was Indian. Madiha Imam questioned why people believe that only one religion exists in India, and pointed out that Pakistan also has a diverse religious landscape.

She admitted that it was a mistake to explain her husband’s religion in response to the criticism, but at the time, she felt obligated to clarify the situation for her fans. Despite her explanations and sharing pictures from their wedding as proof, the trolling did not stop. Madiha’s mother had advised her against giving any explanations, but Madiha Imam said she ignored this advice and regretted it later.

Speaking more about her husband, Madiha Imam mentioned that he comes from a tribal area in India, similar to the tribal regions in Pakistan, where communities are closely knit. However, she chose not to disclose his exact religious beliefs, even though she has repeatedly stated that her husband is not Hindu. Social media users have wrongly accused her of marrying a non-Muslim, though Madiha Imam has never confirmed or denied these rumors directly.
